OpenVessel 2.0 is a redesigned benchmark model for testing your 3D printer’s capabilities. The original was scrapped to make this version unique and functional without resembling Benchy. It’s simple, effective, and even floats upright in water.

What OpenVessel 2.0 Tests:

1.  Dimensional Accuracy:

  • Features like the portholes, windows, and deck details reveal how precise your printer is with measurements.

2. Spicey Overhangs:

  • This boat is loaded with challenging overhangs on the cabin, hull, and roof to push your printer’s limits.

3. Bridging:

  • The openings under the deck are great for testing how well your printer handles unsupported spans.

4. Surface Quality:

  • The curved hull and smooth flat surfaces highlight any inconsistencies in layer alignment.

5. Stringing and Retraction:

  • Fine details like the mast and cutouts will expose issues with stringing or retraction.

6. Layer Adhesion:

  • Sloped and curved areas of the hull show whether your layers are bonding well.

7. Detail Resolution:

  • Lifebuoys, railing details, and other small features test how sharp and defined your prints can be.

8. Bed Adhesion:

  • The base checks if your printer’s first layer is sticking properly to the bed.

9. Warping Resistance:

  • Wide, flat sections on the hull help spot cooling or warping problems.

Why OpenVessel 2.0?

  • Challenging Overhangs: There’s no shortage of tricky angles to see how well your printer handles spicey overhangs.
  • It Floats: Unlike many test prints, this boat floats upright, making it practical beyond just benchmarking.
  • Clean Design: It’s straightforward, functional, and avoids unnecessary extras.
  • No Strings Attached: Free and open-source—print it, share it, remix it.

OpenVessel 2.0 does what it needs to do: test your printer, look decent, and work as a basic floating model. No fluff, just results.

Enjoy!
