Description
The Defang ding, an early Western Zhou Dynasty artifact and a national treasure of China. This bronze object is currently housed in the Shanghai Museum. Its inscription of 24 characters provides invaluable data for the study of Chinese script evolution, and is of immense value to the fields of history, archaeology, and philology.
Square dings of the early Western Zhou period tend to have shallower bellies and slenderer feet, with the Defang ding being a typical example. Its interior base bears an inscription—a significant 24-character inscription across five lines—recording King Cheng of Zhou’s sacrifices to King Wu of Zhou in Luoyang. The nobleman De participated and was rewarded by King Cheng, thus commissioning this vessel as a commemorative piece.
Supports are needed for printing; I used tree supports which were relatively easy to remove.
