If you're enjoying this model, don't forget to give it a rating, like or even boost! Check out my profile for more- I mostly make a mix of toddler toys, DND dice towers and mechanical fixings.

Details:

This is the most unique and silly wooden traintrack piece I could think of. It's a full circular loop which allows your electric locomotives to “hamster wheel” their way around the room. My toddler loves setting this up and then following it around the room, adjusting it away from obstacles. Compatible with Ikea Lillabo, Brio, and (probably) any other equivalent brand.

In addition I've recently added some fun little accessories to make this toy even more exciting:

  • A Desktop roller/ train display which rotates the track loop on the spot, just place it on the rollers and watch it go!
  • Brightly coloured faceplates which clip straight onto the loop, adding some much needed vibrancy to your life- usable in both desktop and hamster wheel mode. Add a light source to make your very own rotating sensory shadow lamp!

Print info:
Everything in this collection prints without supports. I used a brim on the roller pegs, roller sleeves, track piece and faceplates to aid adhesion, and a “mouse ear” type brim on the roller platform.

Printed at 0.2mm layers- Faceplates are 0.8mm thick so this makes it an easy 4 layers.
I printed some of the parts using BBL's Wood filament which looks great and makes a good effort at matching the look/ feel of the original wooden train set pieces.

Assembly info:

  • Hamster wheel track needs no assembly.
  • Faceplates need no assembly, they simply clip onto the outer ring.
  • Place the roller sleeves over the roller peg and slot them into the grooves on the roller platform.
