Quoting Baidu Encyclopedia: Six Lines Bagua Prediction, is a principle summarized by the ancients from observing the laws of nature. It originated in the Western Han Dynasty Jing Fang's Naja system. Initially, 50 Yarrow stalks were used, and by the Song Dynasty, there was "using coins instead of yarrow stalks". The predictor would place three copper coins in their hand, clasp their hands tightly, think about what they are measuring, allowing the measured information to permeate the coins, shake them while clasping, then place them in a divination tray, throwing six times to form a hexagram.
After the hexagram is formed, it is matched with hexagram lines, and after changes in movement. By measuring the stem-branch of the day of divination, combined with six relatives ("me", parents, siblings, wife/husband, officials/demons, children) and six animals (Azure Dragon, White Tiger, Vermilion Bird, Black Tortoise, Gou Chen (Kirin) and Teng She), mainly relying on the five elements of the god of use, combined with the Book of Changes's line pronouncements, to judge the development process and results of things. Six Lines is one of the most widely circulated folk prediction methods, with variations such as Plum Blossom Divination, and the interpretation method of Wen Wang's sixty-four hexagrams. It is much simpler than the orthodox Six Lines interpretation method.
