Hello everyone,
Besides my Bambu Lab, I have aquaristics as a hobby
I am an aquarist body and soul, and thanks to my 3D Printer, I can simplify the underwater world a bit
I have also designed another variant of the Water change Diffuser where you can directly connect the water hose. You can find the Water change direct here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1152019#profileId-1156352
You can find a variant with a ¾ inch thread for Quick Connect systems here:
Check out my profile, there are other small things for the aquarium there as well
I was annoyed that the substrate always gets stirred up during water changes. I always held my hand in front of it so that the jet was somewhat weakened
Especially in aquascaping with smaller aquariums and fine, perhaps freshly planted substrate, it is important not to stir up the substrate, or not too much, during water changes
So I sat down at Fusion 360 and designed something that should solve exactly this problem in every aquarium
My “Water change Diffuser” prevents exactly that. The water is poured through my diffuser and refracted multiple times within the two-layer honeycomb body. This creates a very gentle rain in the aquarium that does not cause turbulence on the substrate
And the best part: thanks to its thread and the corresponding set screw, this diffuser always fits perfectly on any aquarium (up to approx 1.2cm wall thickness)
My Corydoras were very happy about it recently. The fish really like the imitated rain and it also encourages spawning
So, refilling the water can be realistically simulated as rain for the aquarium with the diffuser
The diffuser consists of 3 parts:
- a main body with a diameter of 6cm
- a coarse top grid, which will be inserted into the main body later
- and the set screw with thread
I deliberately divided the parts onto 2 printing plates:
The main body is best printed with the tree supports manually painted by me, otherwise the entire honeycomb pattern of the basket would be riddled with supports
The screw and the coarse grid can be printed easily with standard tree support. I recommend that here too
So please do not forget to switch to standard tree support before printing plate 2
I also recommend keeping the orientation of the coarse top grid standing on its side, as this makes the support scars almost invisible and creates a smooth surface on both sides of the grid
I have printed several prototypes regarding the orientations and support, the version uploaded here is the one with the best result for me
Please note that the first screwing in of the screw into the thread might be a bit stiff, but this will immediately ease up afterwards
As a precaution, I added a brim to prevent possible adhesion problems on the printing plate. I myself printed on the Cool Plate SuperTrack on a P1S with PLA Basic. The brim may need to be deburred and smoothed a bit
Please remove the tree supports very carefully so as not to crush the grid. I used pliers. Check out my pictures
I have already given away a few of my prototypes to fellow aquarists and asked them to test them. The feedback was positive and the effort seems to have been worth it
This diffuser is a relief for every water change and the aquarium inhabitants enjoy the gentle rain
I hope I can also simplify your water changes a bit with this
Continue to enjoy your underwater world and your 3D Printer
