DIY Data Center: The Modular 2020 Extrusion Rack That Adapts to You
Why spend a fortune on bulky, overpriced server racks when you can engineer your own? This fully modular, 2020 extrusion-powered rack is built for makers, homelabbers, and IT tinkerers who demand flexibility, customization, and a bit of overkill.
💾 Features:
✅ 3D printed corners—because wobbly racks belong in haunted houses, not your homelab.
✅ Cage bolt system for mounting 10” rack components—because zip ties are not a long-term solution.
✅ A rackstand if you don't want to build a cube
✅ Compatible with my other 10” server uploads, including Nanorack builds, ensuring seamless upgrades and expansions.
🛠 How to Build Like a Pro
Parts You'll Need:
🔩 2020 extrusions (you can size it up yourself)
🔩 M5 bolts (because glue is NOT an option)
🔩 Interchangeable faceplates (for your ThinkCentre M920q, HP G3 Mini, and more or try the fully modular nanorack )
Assembly Steps:
1️⃣ Tap the ends of your 2020 extrusions with an M5 thread
2️⃣ Secure the custom corners with M5 bolts
3️⃣ Cut your front horizontal extrusion to 220mm—this ensures perfect spacing for 10” rack components.
4️⃣ Mount your gear using the cage bolt system—because real server racks don’t rely on double-sided tape.
5️⃣ Swap faceplates as needed—your setup should be as dynamic as your ever-growing homelab addiction.
6️⃣ Expand & customize—add more extrusions, more plates, and more overkill as needed.
Modular. Scalable. Built for Nerds.
- Need more space? Add longer 2020 extrusions.
- Swapping devices? Change faceplates faster than a rolling Linux update.
- Tired of cable spaghetti? At least now you can pretend you have it under control.
Print it, build it, and enjoy a custom server rack that grows with your setup. Because off-the-shelf is boring, and DIY is king. 🛠️🚀
