Description

This model is a 3D representation of contour lines.

Isohypse or contour lines are lines on a map joining points of equal height above sea level. This lines are obtained by cutting a mountain with a series of parallel planes at different heights.

⛰️  This is a mountain scale model cut every 100 meters of height

🌈  The cutting planes are represented by colored slices to better identify the different levels of height (no AMS required, the slices have been printed in white PLA and then colored)

🧩  The model can be disassembled and restacked into two configurations:

  1. A complete 3D model of the mountain obtained alternating the mountain parts and the colored slices over the base. The pins between the white mountain parts help to correctly orientate and stack the different pieces

  2. A “2D” model representing the contour lines of the sliced mountain obtained stacking only the colored pieces over the base. The pin on the base help to correctly orientate the slices. The stacking order is identified by a text on each slice, representing the value of the height

This can be used as an educational toy for childrens to better understand how contour lines are obtained. The colored pieces can also be used as a guide to draw contour lines on paper and the entire model can be used as a 3D puzzle.
