Description

When the cap of my washing machine's detergent dispenser broke, I faced a choice—spend around 130 PLN (~35 EUR) on a replacement or try to fix it myself. Since the price seemed excessive, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

The main body of the cap was still in good shape—the only issue was the sealing element, which frequently fell off. Once, I even found it in the filter, but this time it was gone for good. After a few attempts, I managed to recreate it, and it works perfectly.

I opted for 3D printing and carefully selected the right material. I chose PA12 Nylon, which offers several key advantages:

High heat resistance – Unlike common materials like PLA or PETG, PA12 Nylon withstands the high temperatures inside a washing machine without deforming.

Flexibility & mechanical durability – Nylon is far more resistant to cracks and stress compared to standard filaments, ensuring that my cap lasts longer than the original.

Chemical resistance – Detergents and softeners can weaken regular plastics, but PA12 Nylon is highly resistant, making it a durable choice.

Since printing with nylon can be tricky, I used a few techniques to improve adhesion. I applied a brim to prevent warping and Bambu Lab glue to ensure the print stayed firmly attached to the bed.

In the end, I successfully created a fully functional cap without spending extra money on an overpriced replacement. Thanks to 3D printing, I not only saved money but also had full control over the quality and durability of the part.

This is another example of how 3D printing can solve everyday problems, replacing expensive spare parts while giving the satisfaction of making something yourself. 💡🔧
