Description

Drybox for the safe storage of filament

No tools or fasteners required for assembly

Turn your Sterilite 20 Qt box into a filament storage box with room for up to 5 spools! Just assemble everything as shown in the pictures and enjoy an orderly, flexible and stackable storage system. Comes with an optional holder for a hygrometer so you'll always know if you need to recharge the silica or not. Silica storage can be removed from the box without the need for disassembly.

All you need (besides the printable parts and the box itself) is any ½ inch plastic or pvc pipe as can be found in any home hardware store. Cut two pieces to a length of 330 mm (13 inches) each and you're all set. Tip: A cheap PVC pipe cutter makes this task super easy. I'm using this one for under 10 dollars.

If you can't (or don't want to) use PVC pipe, printing the pipe is possible as well by using the print profile labeled “Printed Pipes”. While PVC pipes offer superior strength, the model and profile have been meticulously designed to maximize sturdiness in the printed version. Check out the last three pictures in the gallery above for images showcasing the printed pipe model.

All printable parts are designed so they can be printed by the Bambu Lab A1 mini, the Prusa Mini or any other printer with a print plate of at least 180 x 180 mm. Prints without the need for supports, except for the two end pieces. If you print from my print profile these supports are minimal and super easy to remove.

If you would like to have a hygrometer in your dry box, check out the print profile named “Hygrometer mounts (optional)”. This print profile contains six different options that should cover almost every hygrometer on the market.

Bill of materials:

  • Sterilite 20 Qt box with gasket. Approximately $7 to $9 per piece. Can be found at Amazon, Walmart, Target, Home Depot or any other department store.

  • PVC pipe with a diameter of ½ inch. Around $4 to $5 for 10 feet (enough for 4 boxes). Can be found at any hardware store like Lowes, Home Depot, ACE Hardware or Amazon.

  • Silica beads. Available online everywhere. My personal favorite are the orange indicating, rechargeable beads from Dry&Dry, but any other brand works as well as long as the beads have a diameter of 2 mm and above. At maximum capacity this model can hold up to 400 grams (14 oz) of silica beads.

  • Hygrometer (optional). Any round hygrometer with the standard measurements of 45 x 14 mm works, and there's also an option for rectangular hygrometers in the print profile. They can be found anywhere online. You can also buy them directly from Bambu Lab, see below under “Bill of Materials”. Might be a helpful item to add to your cart if you need a few more dollars to reach the free shipping threshold.
