Anti-scratch Corner Mounts for IKEA Kuggis

I needed to save my Khallax self surfaces from getting scratched every time these Kuggis storage boxes were slid in and out of the shelf, and the way the bottom surface is designed, it's not easy to simply attach some felt pads on the corners due to the ribs sticking out. So I designed these snap-fit corner mounts which have flat surface, allowing you to attach the pads on them more easily and steadily.

Thus, you will need some Felt Pads that you can cut into shape (however you like them to be).

You could cut them to resemble the shape of the mounts easily by first sticking them on the mount face and then start trimming the protuded edges around the path. 

For me, (at the time this model was published) I didn't have any of those pads, so I simply used some velcro pads (the female/loop side that is soft and fuzzy) in place of the felt pads. They achieved pretty much the same result in terms of protecting the self from scratches.

Printing preps - IMPORTANT

• Generic supports are disabled because this uses a multi-material support technique for the cleanest overhangs with the intricate flanges that are somewhat brittle. Unfortunately, this is as thick as it can get, due to the small distance between the rims and the base insert.
• So you will need to first print the custom supports out of other filaments that are not for the mounts. For me, I used the Bambu Support Filament, and PLA+ for the mounts.
• With the custom supports ready, start printing the mounts and once a Pause is fired, insert those supports with the chamfered side facing down. Once all is set, resume the print. 
  • If you've done this before, you'll see that the overhangs obviously will have zero clearance and yet the supports will still be easily removable, because these filaments don't stick well together (that's the whole idea). Alternatively, you could use PETG for the support, and PLA for the mounts, or vise versa.
• Alternatively, you can enable the generic support but use support interface, which will save printing time.
• The middle mount won't need any support.
• With the corner mounts installed, if you pull the Kuggis box all the way out, please mind the shelve's bottom edge when you push it back in. You will want to grab and lift the front side a bit as you do that, because the mounts are kind of sticking out and may bump into the shelve's bottom edge, causing a new problem.
