PETG only, as PLA is harder than the Steam Deck ABS. A one piece print Steam Deck case for travel. Fits both LCD and OLED models. I pack light and I dislike zip cases, yet all of the commercial hard covers that protect the screen and sticks also require chunky backplates. I stumbled across a ton of 3D models, but the problems were numerous:
- They needed to be assembled from two print pieces, or;
- They slid left-right as a centred single piece print, and/or;
- The plastic shield would rub up against and scratch the screen.
My design addresses those issues, among other notable features:
- Single piece print.
- First-of-kind clips on top edge to stop side-to-side movement.
- Half a millimetre screen cavity carved out, so the plastic case doesn't rub on the screen.
- Stick covers modelled in such a way that there are no supports required on the front-face, so it looks clean af.
- Vent holes and USB-C port exposed, so you can charge it while it's protected.
- Classy inset Steam Deck logo on the front.
If you're not using my print profiles:
- Print vertically for silky smooth wall finish and minimal supports.
- Limit your outer wall print speed to 93 mm/s to minimise any possible ‘speed lines’ up the vertical wall.
For extra protection, grab some 0.5mm thick adhesive foam to place inside the screen cavity. The shell has been designed to flex well enough with PETG and even with PLA, but PETG is preferred due to its significantly better flex. However, this model is not compatible with TPU for AMS as there is too much flex and the case no longer ‘clips’ on securely.
