Thank you ❤️

This is V2 version, which is fully redesigned, it's no longer using any 3rd party remixed parts. HDD caddy should be compatible with the older version.

Changes:

✅ No 3rd party remixed parts

✅ Redesigned HDD caddy and handle for better airflow

✅ Wider gaps between HDDs

✅ Redesigned ThinkNAS case, now it's possible to install 2x 80mm FANS

✅ Slightly modified HDD bay height for better cable management - you can put PC power supply on the bottom, and FAN controller + SATA cables on the top.

✅ Dell Perc H200 controller has been replaced by PCIe ASM1166 6x SATA controller, for less heat and better availability (yes, it's fully compatible with TrueNAS).

If you're searching 4-bay version, go here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1399535-thinknas-4x-hdd-nas-enclosure-for-lenovo-m920q#profileId-1451077

Also 6-bay version is available: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1737570-thinknas-6x-hdd-nas-enclosure-for-lenovo-m920q#profileId-1846272

Used parts:

  • Lenovo ThinkCentre M920q PC obviously :)
  • M920q compatible PCIe riser [LINK]
  • ASM1166 PCIe to 6x SATA Controller [LINK] if you want use NVMe version check below:
  • If you want to use ASM1166 NVMe version, to free up the PCIe slot (so you can connect better network card or other stuff), you'll need NVMe extender like this: [LINK], and also ASM1166 NVMe controller [LINK]
  • SATA Male to female adapter ("backplane") [LINK]
  • SATA cables (50cm will be enough)
  • USB powered fan controller [LINK]
  • 5525 12V at least 4A (can be also 6A) power supply - for supplying power to disks [LINK]
  • 5525 to SATA splitter - from power supply to HDD/FAN(s) [LINK]
  • 80mm FAN(s) - I've used Arctic P8 Slim

Screws:

  • 6-32*6mm screws for ThinkNAS case and for installing HDD disks into caddy [LINK]
  • M3*10mm screws for installing backplane to NAS case [LINK]
  • M3*20mm screws for installing handle with HDD caddy

If you're installing rear fan(s) - be sure also install FAN grill, so anything will not collide with the fan blade. You can find one here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1280129-screwless-80mm-fan-grill-with-distance-no-whine#profileId-1307869

PCIe SATA Controller ASM1166 bracket compatible with Lenovo M920q (and others) is here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/1246251-lenovo-m720q-m920q-hdd-controller-bracket-asm1166#profileId-1267786

Be sure to print it at least with PETG  filament, so it'll be more heat resistant, than PLA.
