Description

I became interested in building a music box after receiving the maker world kit with my PS1.  I printed the Grand Piano music box and was very pleased with the results, but I wanted to create a device that would  function with the opening and closing of the lid.  I decided to design this box based on the trunks that were used by Hogwarts students in the movie.  Some people who travel might put decals on their bag to make it easily identifiable, therefore along with the box  I created little tags or symbols from the books and movies for which to personalize your trunk.  The house names were also created so that you can allow others to know where you belong.  In the pictures you can see how they have been use both on the inside and outside of the trunk.  The hinges, and accessories attach easily using the screws listed which are available at Maker's supply.  The box is designed to work with maker's supply kit Piano Music Box Bottom Winding Kit K-104.  I purchase other similar devices on both Amazon and Music Box Attic.  The ones that came from Music Box Attic had a spring loaded shut off device attached.  I used this in my first design,  bending the wire to make it fit.  I searched to find this device elsewhere so I could include it with my profile without success.  On Amazon I found, Creative Hobbies E240 Spring Loaded Plunger, which worked very well.  I attached  Music box to the device  and then cut  the wire to fit in my designed plunger. (the attached plunger was too long for my box)  Nothing else was needed  the plunger device holds the wire in place allowing the box to be functional. I entered 2 profiles for the trunk one prints with a 0.16 and the other is 0.2 layer heights, both printed with 4 walls and 20% infill and they held up equally.   The hinges and accessories were all printed 0.12 layer heights as they had more detail and results were nice.  There is a lid plate ( for the inside of the top lid) included as well, you can print this in any color you wish.  In my pictures you see how I added mirror paper to this plate which, which provided a pleasing outcome.  There were a few challenges along the way but I'm new to designing and I enjoyed the challenge. I hope that you may enjoy this print as well.
