Description

Here are six jigs and templates to assist in making a common 38mm (1.5 inch) leather belt. One jig is for a classic stand alone stitch design, another jig is a repeating design which can be used to create a stitch pattern as long as desired.

The third jig is for placing rivets or "Chicago Screws" to secure the common single prong belt buckle. There is an indentation in the center of the jig indicating the slot for the buckle prong. Mark these two holes, punch appropriate sized holes (4mm seems to be common), then connect the two holes making a slot. If you intend to secure the buckle by sewing, you'll only need to mark the two center holes for the buckle prong slot. The curved end of this jig facilitates marking and cutting the end of the belt at the buckle end. You can also use this template for marking belt holes. Counting holes from either end of the template, holes 1, 2, 4, 6 and 7 are spaced 1 inch apart and can be used to mark 5 belt holes.

The fourth jig allows you to mark the belt end tip.

The fifth jig is to mark 11 stitch locations around the belt hole to reinforce the holes. The belt holes I create are oblong 4 x 5.5 mm. As a bonus, I uploaded another version of this jig for 4mm round holes. The round hole jig has 10 prongs instead of 11. Just insert the jig into the hole and tap gently with a hammer. This will leave impressions in the leather so you can punch a hole with an awl or stitching chisel.

The holes are 2.5mm in diameter to accommodate a leather sewing needle to mark stitch and rivet locations. The jigs fit snugly over a 38mm belt so the designs can be placed exactly in the middle of the belt.
