Description
v2.0 IS NOW LIVE!! I reworked the geometry to use less filament for support material and making suport removal more intuitive. The ball is now also easier to print and more stable on the build plate , making printing more reliable. The issue with the downloaded files lacking a hole in the top part is now also fixed, no longer requiring the .3mf file for printing. If you notice any issues with this new version, please let me know!!
This kinetic desk spinning toy is uniquely designed with a hanging ball inside a helix frame. Put it on any flat surface and turn it gently by hand, and this desk spinning toy will continuously rotate, giving the illusion that the ball is floating and moving up or down inside the helix, depending on the spinning direction. When it’s not spinning, it also serves as a unique desk decoration.
NOTICE: The ball is attached to the spiral frame, it just creates an illusion which makes it look like it’s defying gravity and floating. Please use non-reflective filaments for this part (ideally matt PLA), as any reflection will substantially reduce the illusion.
- Requires a 608 ball bearing for the spinning motion. Ideally, a ceramic bearing spins the best.
3 hours to print
Roughly 60g of filament
