Pool Filter with Skimmer

This filter replaces the original cartridge filters (outer diameter: 150mm, height: approx 210mm, thread: 1 ½" SAE coarse thread) of a hot tub or pool with the same filter system

Additional material is required:

1. 4x M5 brass threaded inserts (e.g. 10mm length or shorter)
2. 4x M5x20 flat head screws (stainless steel due to corrosion)
3. Pool filter balls (normally replace quartz sand in sand filter systems)
4. Floater*

*Ring made of buoyant material (e.g. closed-cell foam) with the following dimensions:

1. Inner diameter: 88mm
2. Outer diameter: 144mm
3. Thickness: approx 10mm

The motivation for this model was the high price of new cartridge filters
 

Further advantages over the original filter cartridges in my pool:
 

• Skimmer function This means that dirt on the water surface is effectively sucked away (The original cartridge filter, by its design principle, only works underwater)
• As soon as the pump stops running (timer program), the previously sucked-in dirt particles cannot float back into the pool but remain trapped in the housing
• When removing the filter (for cleaning or replacing the filter balls), only clean water flows back into the pool from the filter

Update 2026-05-15: “Sieb_oben_V5”

Following a suggestion from “Luxusproblem”, I have added “Sieb_oben_V5” This version now has a handle

This handle is used for screwing in and out, as well as for lifting out the entire pool filter without having to remove the skimmer first

Compatibility: V3 can simply be replaced by V5
