Description

Why redesign the key?:

The factory key fob for the new Hyundai Elantra is terrible. It's oversized and it's very easy to accidentally press the buttons when in your pocket. I designed this as a replacement with no buttons. The outside door handle locks/unlocks by touching it and the trunk has an outside button as well.

Printing & Assembly

For the final print, I used a 0.2mm nozzle as it shows the N logo the best but 0.4mm will work fine. I've added a picture comparing the two, but it's hard to tell the difference with image compression.

Most of the FOB was printed using Bambu's Matte PLA. The middle gasket was printed using the black TPU for AMS, I don't think it's waterproof but it hides any bed warping.

The outer black area around the ‘N’ was printed using Bambu's Iron Gray Metallic PLA. Its very similar to black but slightly shinier.

There is a pause on layer 18 to press the nuts inside the print. The nuts aren't necessary but it stays together better with them.

To assemble it I used 4 M2x6mm socket head bolts + nuts from this kit: https://a.co/d/iMMRdkM

Compatibility:

I designed this from my 2025 Elantra N key fob. The non N models of the Elantra should work, it looks like the same key, but I don't have one to compare with so YMMV.  The PCB may also differ slightly, you may need to sand down some surfaces to fit the PCB in the print.

Design:

I've included a .zip file with .sldprt copy of the design which includes the 2 halves, the gasket, the N logo, and the PCB reference I used.

I designed this using OnShape, importing the .sldprt file to it should work fine. If you would like any more information or files, let me know in the comments.
