My Apple PowerBook 3400c Suffered from a common failure in the mouse button where a lip to press the button switch goes brittle and snaps, rendering the button itself unusable. This is a simple fix that just replaces the lip and restores the button to working order!

I tried designing a replacement that uses the same screws as the button, but unfortunately the space around is very limited so I was only able to work in the same amount of space as the original part. This however should work as good as the original.

How to install:

  • unscrew and remove the button from the computer for easier handling.
  • Cut out the bar that goes between the two screw plates where the lip originally mounted.
  • For better adhesion and an even surface to glue to sand where the original bar mounted along with the sides of the replacement part.
  • Superglue on both sides and install as shown, make sure the lip itself is parallel to the rest of the button mounting plastic, otherwise the lip will be to close or far away from the button. a test fitment of the button switch is recommended while the glue is still drying.
  • Reinstall, and you're done!
