Push-up Stand/Cervical Spondylosis Exerciser
Prolonged desk work has led to cervical spondylosis. Every time I turn or nod my head, the bones in my neck crackle and pop.
My shoulders ache, and the shoulder pain keeps me up at night. It's excruciating.
Anyone with cervical spondylosis can certainly relate to this pain.
Acupuncture, massage, cervical traction... I've tried various methods. Undergoing all sorts of treatments is agonizing and only provides temporary pain relief.
After treatment, I might be fine for half a day, but then the excruciating pain returns - who understands?
Various neck pillows on my bed offer no help.
I've tried many exercises, yet the results are minimal.
While browsing videos, I've come to a thorough understanding of the causes of cervical spondylosis.
It primarily stems from the neck supporting the head in one position for extended periods with little movement, causing an imbalance in the anterior and posterior neck muscles, with the anterior muscles pulling more strongly than the posterior ones and deforming the cervical spine.
Over time, this leads to bone hyperplasia - bone spurs. Then the nerves become compressed.
Shoulder pain is partly due to compression from the cervical spine, but also due to lack of shoulder exercise and lactic acid buildup, causing muscle adhesion in the back.
Ultimately, it all boils down to strengthening the posterior neck muscles and exercising the shoulders.
Watching videos, I've learned that push-ups and crawling can exercise the neck and shoulder muscles, which makes sense.
Perhaps this is a drawback of our evolution to upright walking and then to prolonged desk work.
