Boosting is kind.
Presenting my design for a large (180x150x50mm), magnetically sealed desiccant box. Keep your precious filament rolls dry and ready to print with this practical and easily printable enclosure.
This design provides a simple, effective solution for humidity control and is especially ideal for protecting your 3D printer filament from moisture. Moisture in filament can lead to printing issues like bubbling, stringing, and poor layer adhesion. This box solves that problem. Simply fill the printed box with desiccant (such as silica gel beads) and place in a sealed storage area with your filament rolls.
This box features:
Magnetic Closure: A satisfying magnetic seal securely holds the lid closed, keeping the enclosure secure while allowing you to easily change or recharge the enclosed desiccant when needed.
Vented Design: Allows for efficient air exchange, ensuring your filament stays dry without compromising print quality. Sizeable top and side 1mm vents allow for air exchange without letting the enclosed desiccant pellets escape.
Desiccant Compatibility: Designed to be filled with your choice of desiccant material, such as colour-changing silica gel beads. This desiccant is readily available and inexpensive to purchase from vendors such as Amazon. It can also be easily recharged in the microwave and re-used when it becomes saturated.
Easy Print & Assembly: Designed for easy 3D printing with no supports. Assembly is straightforward – simply install the D6x2 magnets and you're ready to go (8 magnets in total).
I recommend printing this box in PETG, but it will work just fine in PLA, ABS, ASA, or any other rigid material.
My desiccant of choice is available from Amazon:
