Description
Background
This is a school project that involves designing a USB Case that is usable for a 15-year-old person with Swan-neck Disorder. Swan-neck disorder is a condition where the middle finger's joint is permanently bent towards the palm.
After scouting the Internet for potential designs, I found a single-page sketch for a rotating arm that will retract or extend the USB connector. Although the design was discarded, after some modification, I managed to alter it to my requirements.
How does it work
The USB Case's arm has two cogs attached to the end of it, when assembled together, will turn the teeth gears that house the USB circuit board, going clockwise to extend the connector outside the case and anticlockwise to retract the connector into the case. The top half of the case contains a lofted cylinder, which allows the user to put their finger in to secure it and control it more efficiently. Another circle is located on the top of the arm, once again used to allow the user to maintain control over the positioning of the USB.
Assembly
Take the small plate and attach the USB circuit board to it. Then, take the bottom half of the USB case and put it in the small plate that houses the USB circuit board. Put in the arm handle, with the circle on the arm facing the hole for the USB connector. Attach the top half of the USB case, ensuring that the wider circle on the top half is facing away from the USB connector.
