This plumbing trap is designed to prevent unpleasant sewer odors from traveling back up through a drain. 

By creating a small water barrier inside the pipe, the trap blocks gases while still allowing wastewater to flow freely through the system. This principle is commonly used in plumbing traps to isolate the drain opening from the sewer line and stop smells from entering indoor spaces.

The compact design makes it suitable for DIY installations, prototyping, or replacing simple drain inserts where a traditional trap is not present. Once installed, the curved internal channel retains a small amount of water that acts as a seal against odor, insects, and sewer gases.
