7/20/2026 Update

Added an H series print that's a few mm bigger than the 256mm print bed with improved connectors that go together easier (add a drop of super glue), as well as 25x3x5mm (1x0.11x0.19) magnets instead of the original size. Due to popular demand I uploaded a flat version! Angled was designed for Pierce, flat can be used in HME, Rosenbauers, and even on the top platform of Pierce should you choose. If you can fit it, it'll work. 

 

Original Post

This took a long time to develop, and many people have asked me to share the design. PLEASE BOOST, I'd greatly appreciate it! This was designed for Pierce platforms, I've seen several and it should work with all of the ones I've seen. It may work with other manufacturers that have a 15 degree back slope on their platforms.

 

We ordered 2 Pierce fire rigs for our department, and the apparatus committee wanted an open concept. Many fire rigs have a lot of stuff between the front and back of the dog house, which hinders the view for the guy in the back, and also makes talking without headsets harder. The committee was looking at organizers from companies that cost $1,200+, and had several week lead times. I spent several weeks designing, redesigning, and changing the layout to suite the committee's wishes and meet our needs. After installing them in the rigs, I spent several more weeks perfecting the print and the profiles before posting online. 

 

Materials needed: roughly 3.2kg of black PETG (if you use supports), and some red PETG for labeling and names. I do not recommended PLA, but it could potentially work, I just worry about the heat I used magnets, but those are optional. If you don't want magnets, you can save a lot of time and money by not printing the lids. The magnets basically doubled the cost of the project, but I think it looks a lot cleaner. Mounting is designed for ¼-20 pan head screws, which technically should involve the removal of the whole platform to not damage to fabric underneath. An alternative is to use Velcro. The jigs work best printed in the red PETG so that you can see your marks and verify they are centered. Super glue is recommended for the magnets and joining the pieces together. You may have to slightly trim the nubs with a razor blade as some areas you are unable to use support to ensure they are perfectly round. Basically just flatten the top and bottom of each nub.

 

The biggest problem I ran into was the size of the Bambu print bed vs the size of the glove boxes. The original size was perfect, however, the gloves that our closest hospital supplies are the green Oat Max+ (qty. 250) glove boxes. These were annoyingly 1/16" longer than every other box of gloves in the firehouse and area hospitals. Due to this, I had to resize the whole thing to accommodate them. I was unable to get the ends thick enough to have magnets on the front and back portions, which allows the lids to self center. This is not a big deal, it just isn't perfect for that reason. The actual size of the boxes are around 255mm. You have to make sure to center the item in the slicer software, and then make sure your plate is perfectly centered, and your nozzle is perfectly perpendicular to the plate.

 

Within the 3MF file you'll find several options. Everything before the jigs is exactly what I used. After that are different options. Originally, I did not have name plates, and I printed them vertically, but it does add 22+ hours with a 0.4mm nozzles, and with the amount of color changes with PETG, I had to constantly monitor it for printer poop sticking to the nozzle. I attempted it once and it failed while I was sleeping, and then did the name plates as an alternative. If you have an H2D, I think printing the rig name vertically looks super slick, and it will not be a problem at all for the dual nozzles. There are also glove box holders without a magnet.

 

Notes: To save on filament and time, you can switch between tree supports vs normal, or you can remove the supports entirely and lay them on the bottom angle, just know the top surface will not be smooth. Obviously be mindful of magnet polarity, as the lids print upside down, and the boxes print right side up. I'd recommend printing the lids first so it is easier to confirm magnet polarity. Other words you can mark the tops. You will be unable to add supports to the ends of the boxes due to the size of the plate, so I manually drew them on the nubs. The cupholders were designed for our 16oz Yetis, and we have had 0 issues with Monster energy drinks or water bottles spilling. The pockets up front work great for simple masks, N95s, gas cards, phones, etc. I originally was going to make a garage door opener mounted, but we ended up velcroing one up top. Alternatively, you can Velcro it to the side of the Engineer's cupholder. The mounting holes work great as a pen holder. When I printed this, I kept the magnets inside the printer to keep them warm. This may not be needed, but that's what I did. 72 magnets 25 x 4 x 3 mm  are needed.

 

Overall size is about 16.9" wide x 19.5" long on the platform.
