Description

The Sunlu spools are a great addition to the Bambu ecosystem.  The “older” V2 spools along with the “latest” V3 spools that fit Bambu filament refills work great in both the AMS and AMS 2 Pro systems.  However, the filament clips that are included with Sunlu spools need to be reattached when swapping filament spools and storing the filament, or when using the drying function of the AMS 2 Pro or AMS HT.  This can be a hassle when trying to store filament clips, plus they start to wear out over time and get loose.

These clips are a step to make a semi-permanent solution to having a set of filament clips on the spools.  It's a nod to a great clip for Bambu spools made by UltraJaxel.  However, these are completely re-engineered to fit the Sunlu spools.

NOTE: this set of profiles are for the latest V3 200mm-diameter Sunlu spools.  These are the “newer” spools that can fit a standard Bambu filament refill.  The clip holes on these spools are slightly smaller than the older spools, so they won't work with the older V2 195mm-diameter spools.

The other clips that are compatible with the 195mm spools, along with other Sunlu spool parts I have, can be found here:

Print profiles included are ABS, PETG, and PLA.  There is also an ABS profile scaled to 101% to account for material shrinkage depending on the manufacturer of the filament.  Also, some of these Sunlu spools have shown to have slight variation in dimensions, where a 100% ABS fits nice and tight on one spool, but is loose on another.  Hopefully having the extra profile can help match up while Sunlu tries to get a consistent set of spools hitting the market with their latest revision.

NOTE: when using these with an AMS, it's important to install them on the correct “side” of the spool with respect to the direction of the wound filament.

  • In an original AMS: the clips should be on the right side of the spool when installed.  Otherwise, they'll hit the molded guide on the AMS and jam it.
  • In the AMS 2 Pro: the clips should be on the right side if a spool is in slot 2 or 4 (from the left), and left side if a spool is in slot 1 or 3 (from the left).  These are pretty easy to pop out and snap back into the other side when needed.

As I try to do with all of my models, I've included both STEP and STL files for all models in the projects.  Feel free to adjust as necessary for your own needs.  If you need/prefer the CAD model itself, DM me and I'll try to send you a link to my OnShape project for the model.

Thanks, and happy printing!
