The phrase "ren you suo cao" originates from a passage in the Analects of Confucius, specifically the chapter Wei Ling Gong: "The Master said, 'The resolute scholar and the man of virtue will not seek to live at the expense of ren, but will even sacrifice their lives to make ren complete.'" This is a warning from Confucius regarding those of resolute will and virtue, implying that they should not compromise their integrity to survive, but rather, be willing to die in its defense. Here, "cao" can be understood as integrity or moral principle.
