THE COMMANDER SPELLBOOK

I made my own Commander deck box in the form of a spellbook!

I wanted to be able to bring everything I need in one box when I'm going to a friend's place or LGS for a game night.

The box fits the following:

  • Command zone that displays your Commander as part of the book cover
  • 100 sleeved cards
  • 50 unsleeved cards/tokens or 20-30 sleeved
  • 16x D6 (16mm dice)
  • 6x D20 (22mm dice)
  • 4 Whiteboard pens

I used a 0.2 mm nozzle and AMS for the icons on the book cover and the name tag on the book spine.

Printed with 2mm nozzle

0.2 nozzle

It is still possible to do with a 0.4 mm nozzle and without AMS by adding a layer pause for filament switching.

Example with 0.4 nozzle

Set your own text and font on the label for the book spine by editing the text_shape object.

Instructions/tips:

This model requires 16 pieces of 4x2 mm magnets, some glue, and a piece of filament.

OBS! Make sure the magnets are placed correctly so they will attract!

The lid and the opening to the "hidden" storage need some post-processing to fit nicely. The fit should be quite loose since it will have magnets.

Mount the magnets to the box, front cover, and the lid. Glue will help them stay in place.

Glue the ribbon bookmark to the lid and put it on the magnets inside it. This will act as a handle to remove the lid.

Align the box with the bulge on the back cover. Make sure it fits nicely before gluing the back cover to the box.

Mount the spine to the box and glue it both against the back cover and the box.

Before adding the front cover, I found it easier to glue the mana icons and Magic logo onto the lid.
Added a small steering to align and center the mana symbols, magic logo and spine label.

Then, add the front cover. Use a piece of filament and push it through the hinges.
When you cut it, make sure you pull it up a couple of mm first so when you push it back in, it should not stick out on any of the sides.

Then, glue on the edge pieces and the label on the spine.
I would recommend that you place the corner pieces so that the surface that has been on the bed faces downwards and upwards.

Now you can add the dice tray, card tray, and Commander zone, and you are done!

Since some sleeves are a bit more slippery it could be difficult to grab the cards and lift them, looking at you Ultra PRO Apex sleeves!
I made a tray with ears so its possible to lift the whole tray instead of just the cards. So just choose with one you want to print.

If your sleeved cards do not fit in the tray, just go without it.
