Description
I sought a notebook stand to position my ThinkPad upright beside my monitor. In video conferences, a higher camera angle simply presents a more flattering view 😉. Furthermore, the screen position is more comfortable, and the notebook occupies significantly less desk space.
The inability to use the keyboard and touchpad doesn't bother me—I use an external mouse and keyboard anyway.
My search for ready-made models was unfortunately disappointing: too large, too bulky—or the notebook didn't stand properly. I wanted a small, sturdy, and portable solution that allowed the laptop to stand perfectly vertical.
So I promptly designed my own stand and then adapted it for other laptops/occasions.
I've since been frequently asked about it at the office and have printed many copies for colleagues—therefore, I'm finally making them available here on MakerWorld. Perhaps others will also find them appealing!
There are three variations, all of which I use regularly myself. I'm uploading them as 3 individual models, which I will link in the descriptions.
One more note: The specified thickness refers to the portion inserted into the stand. For laptops, this is only the thickness of the base (keyboard), not the top (screen).
Model 1: The Minimalist
- For laptops/tablets with a maximum thickness of 10 mm (e.g., ThinkPad, Lenovo Yoga, iPad—see photos)
- Compact, stable, and without a front foot. Weight of 2 stands: 25 g
- Perfect for the home office or on the go (e.g., on the train with an iPad)
- Advantage: extremely space-saving, unobtrusive
- Note: My laptop has never tipped over. However, if the stand risks accidental impact, I recommend Model 2 as a precaution.

Model 2: The Tip-Proof
- Also for laptops/tablets with a maximum thickness of 10 mm (e.g., ThinkPad, Lenovo Yoga, iPad—see photos)
- Additional front foot for even greater stability
- Ideal for the office or anywhere you want to be on the safe side

Model 3: The Universal (THIS model)
- For thicker devices up to 25 mm, e.g., gaming laptops
- Not as elegant as the other two models, but very stable, even for heavy devices
- Can also be used with the laptop closed—as a space-saving holder on the desk
- Naturally somewhat larger, but therefore very versatile
All variations are lightweight, small, and easy to take with you. I welcome feedback and your experiences!!
UPDATE: The stand only works with laptops that can be fully opened. I only own Lenovo laptops, and they work. I assumed all laptops opened in this way, but that is not the case. At least I just saw an Acer that only opens to about 150 degrees. So check your laptop before printing 😉
