Description

Taipei 101 has been one of my favorite sites to visits in my travels.  I was inspired to make this model based on the miniature models of Taipei 101 that you can see inside the skyscraper as well as around Taipei. Many models that you can buy of Taipei 101 also inspired me.

Taipei 101, the tallest building from 2004 until 2009, is still a marvel of 21st century architecture. Standing at 508m tall (this model is only ~55cm sadly,) it was the first skyscraper ever to exceed half a kilometer. As of the date of this model upload, it is the 11th tallest building in the world.

The shape of its upper floors evoke thoughts of Asian pagodas, bamboo stalks, and stacks of Chinese money boxes. There are 8 sections with 8 floors each, signifying abundance, prosperity and good fortune for Chinese people.

Boost Me (for free)

I have brought Taipei 101 home to you. Give me a boost if that makes your day.

My model prints mostly flat and is folded and slotted or snapped together to build the full model.  I include the mall section in my model, which I have noticed is excluded in many other models.  The mall is where most people who visit will see, besides the observation deck near the top.

I went through many iterations of pieces to get them to fit perfectly when folded together.  As you can see…

The model requires no glue to complete. Pieces slot or snap in place and can be disassembled if you want to store it away.  Some pieces are a tight fit. This image shows the completed build, using no glue and printed using an AMS…

It will print fine without an AMS, you just won't have the small details colored. I have included a no AMS print file with pieces separated into single colors.  Print in whatever colors you want.  Make a rainbow colored tower or just brown. The sky(scraper) is the limit.

I have included an assembly guide so that it's not too difficult to see how the parts go together. Please let me know if there are any issues.

I used Bambu Basic PLA in Turquoise, white, grey and black. Any PLA should work, but be careful of the folds. They are 0.2mm thick. I only had them break when I was rough with a piece or wanted to see how tough they were and they held up well in building the model.  Don't bend the folds more than you need to though. Worst case scenario, you have to reprint a broken one.

Boost Me (for free)

Please boost to support me creating future skyscraper or other building models.

The base has 4 circle indentions on the bottom for 3M 9mm rubber feet that I like to use so that my models don't slide around on smooth surfaces.

Please be sure that your build plates are freshly cleaned before printing.  Flat pieces may warp or not adhere well if your plate is not clean. Ask me how I know? While printing the base for the model, I had adhesion issues.  You can even see it in the assembly guide if you look closely.  I cleaned up and printed the base again successfully.
