Summary
Want a scale model of one of the first non-wooden ships in the US Navy? This model is a 1:256 scale model of the famous USS Monitor "Ironclad" from the US Civil War in 1862 when it fought a confederate Ironclad vessel named the CSS Virginia or CSS Merrimack. This model can be printed without an AMS in full color.
This model includes a diorama stand that shows the water and sea floor. One side shows the water and waves while the other side is open and shows below the water line. The battle occurred in very shallow water at the mouth of a river where the water was often shallower than 20ft (which is reeeeally shallow for a ship this big). Its short draft (height under the water) helped it to be able to move in shallow river waters, doing circles around the opposing confederate CSS Virginia which had a draft of 20ft and had to stay in a narrow channel of deep water.
The model snaps together for easy assembly – no glue is required. Scroll down to view assembly instruction pictures to help assemble it.
Bambu filaments used are:
- Polymaker Metallic Chrome (substitute with Matte Ash Gray)
- Matte Dark Red
- Metal Black
- Silk+ Silver
- Matte Desert Tan
- Metal Blue
Assembly Instructions
Use the pegs to connect the Top Gray deck to the bottom Red hull. Note that the only short peg is for the rear most hole, the hole next to the propeller/rudder at the back of the ship. The tan top should snap into place atop the center turret – you will need to rotate the tan top a little so that the holes in the tan top match the pegs in the gray turret.
Next you can insert the propeller into the hole in the back, you should be able to slide it in
Next you can insert the anchor peg to the front of the ship
Then lastly insert the little canons into the turret
As for the stand, assembly is super simple, just line up the water piece and sand piece, then push a peg through the bottom.
