An updated version of my original cantilever brush box. I've made the following updates:

  • Made the box longer to better accommodate larger brushes (I had to saw down some of my brushes to fit in the original design!)
  • Refined the models for more reliable printing
  • Increased the size of the cutouts to make it easier to get brushes out of the trays
  • Added an optional lid model

You can adjust the number of trays your storage box features. All configurations start with:

  • 1 base (deep or shallow)

    either

  • 2 top trays (4 holes each)
    or
  • 2 middle trays (6 holes each) + 2 lids
  • 4 small arms
  • 4 long arms
  • 2 handles

This will give you enough parts to make a single tier box with or without a lid

For each additional tier you'll need

  • 2 middle trays
  • 4 long arms

Each joint requires the following:

  • 1x M3x8mm socket head cap machine screw
  • 2x M3 flat washer
  • 1x M3 spring washer (not available on makers supply, amazon link)
  • 1x M3 round threaded brass heat-insert nut

The assembly order is screw > flat washer > arm > flat washer > spring washer, with the heat-insert pressed into the tray itself.

The washers are to minimise friction so the screws don't come undone, but they can be omitted if you use some thread locker (amazon link). I used both and it gave excellent results.

The base setup has 20 joints, with each tray adding another 8, and the lids adding 4. This means you'll need:

  • M3x8mm socket head cap machine screw - 20 + 8 per tray + 4 if using a lid
  • M3 flat washer - 40 + 16 per tray + 8 if using a lid
  • M3 spring washer - 20 + 8 per tray + 4 if using a lid
  • M3 round threaded brass heat-insert nut - 20 + 8 per tray + 4 if using a lid

The bill of materials provided is enough parts to make a box with three tiers + the base and no lid.
