Thumb splint / fixture

Custom modelled splint (fixture) for broken thumb. Fixes the last phalanx and knuckle, while doesnt restrict its movement in the big knuckle near Your palm.

There are two models - normal and one called “wider” for bigger thumbs. Fixture has to be tightened and fixed to Your thumb by a medical tape - same as with “original” medical fixtures.

Material:

I strongly suuggest using PETG or other bit more flexible material then PLA. As the model needs to be a bit “springy” to clamp on Your thumb.

Printing model:

as shown on picture from bambu studio - with orange slicer model. It is printed in this positions, so no supports are inside and its smooth for comfort of Your thumb. Venting holes on sides might need slight grind/cut of top edge so it doesnt scratch Your finger - depends on how well Your printer prints overhangs.

Resizing model to fit Your thumb better:

Position model as show on the picture from bambu studio with green model. Choose resize menu - uncheck “Uniform size” checker and change X or Y - to make it wider or narrower in direction You need. Changing Z value shouldnt be necessary, but feel free to play with values to get the best fit for Your thumbs.

And remember - this is still just a “hobby” model and not professional solution for Your broken thumb. But in case You dont have original medical fixture at home and cant get to hospital - or just need to fix Your thumb without going to doctor - then You have the chance.
