Description
This LED lamp is specifically designed for aquariums housed in IKEA Kallax shelving units with 4 mm thick glass. I use it myself in my shrimp breeding setup, primarily for cultivating mosses (such as Java, Christmas, and fissidens moss) and small, slow-growing plants.
The lamp utilizes 12V CCT LED strips (2700K – 6500K) that simultaneously operate both color channels, producing a pleasant neutral light (approximately 4000–5000K). This ensures excellent shrimp color rendition, healthy moss growth, and a natural overall aesthetic.
The mount is engineered to securely hold the lamp between the 4 mm rear glass and the mount itself via a recess. This ensures stable lamp placement.
The mount comprises two printed parts that are carefully slid together at the end, ensuring a firm and precise fit. This allows for easy, tool-free lamp removal for cleaning or maintenance.
The mount incorporates a specially designed 300 × 16 × 9 mm recess accommodating both the LED strip and an aluminum sheet for passive cooling.
For optimal heat transfer, a space of exactly 300 × 15 × 2 mm is provided—a standard aluminum sheet can be flush-mounted here.
The LED strip itself measures 300 × 15 × 4 mm and sits securely in the recess, while the aluminum sheet dissipates heat—entirely without fans or additional components.
The LED strips are available as 5-meter rolls and must always be cut into 30 cm sections. Each section has three connection poles that must be correctly wired to illuminate both color temperatures (warm and cool white) simultaneously.
It is recommended to use a DC female adapter for simple, secure, and pluggable connectivity.
For my breeding setup, I use a 12V DC 12.5A power supply, as I operate 12 aquariums from a single unit.
