Description

šŸ‘¹Make Your Own Paper Mache Daruma — with a TPU Mold and PLA Base! šŸ‡ÆšŸ‡µāœØ

What if you could blend traditional Japanese craft with the magic of 3D printing?

This project lets you create your own paper mache Daruma using two printed parts:

  • Ā A thin flexible mold in TPU, shaped like a Daruma
  • Ā A rigid PLA base to hold the mold in place while you work

Just place the mold on the base, apply paper mache, let it dry, then paint and finish with a glossy tempera egg-based varnish — and boom, your lucky Daruma is born!

šŸ”® What’s a Daruma

A Daruma is a traditional Japanese good luck charm, used to make a wish or set a personal goal.
When you start, you paint one eye while silently making your wish or setting your intention.

The Daruma then watches over your progress. Once your wish comes true (or your goal is achieved) you paint the second eye to ā€œcompleteā€ it.

Its round shape and weighted base make it bounce back when pushed — a symbol of resilience and the Japanese saying "Nanakorobi yaoki" (äøƒč»¢ć³å…«čµ·ć): "Fall down seven times, get up eight."

This handmade version brings that spirit to life in paper mache, using natural materials and your own creative energy. Whether you're hoping for luck, love, focus, or something entirely personal, your Daruma becomes a quiet reminder to keep going. šŸŽÆāœØ

šŸ–Œļø Steps:

  1. Print the mold in TPU and the base in PLA
  2. Fit them together
  3. Apply strips of paper + glue (paper mache style)
  4. Let dry, unmold
  5. Paint your Daruma
  6. Seal with tempera varnish for a glossy, natural finish

🄚 How to make the varnish (tempera style):

  • Crack one egg
  • Mix with a few drops of water & vinegar
  • Apply in thin layers with a soft brush
  • Let dry — it gives a beautiful, organic glossy finish ✨

šŸŽØ Every Daruma is unique. You can scale it up, choose different colors, or even try different papers and varnishes.
