Description
Finally get your name on all your gear!
Because, as we all know, is it really yours, if it doesn't have your name on it?
How it works:
Simply load up the 3mf file and change the text to whatever you desire (adjusting text size and font), choose colors and hit print!
For the Inset text variant: The text is a negative shape, and there's a different piece within the tag that is “revealed” by the negative text. This piece will have to be in the color you want your text to be.
It will only properly show up after slicing!
For the No AMS - Multicolor Inset Text variant: The text is a negative part. You will have to start the print with the color you want the text to be. At 3.2 mm height there's a pause already added in the slicer, at this point you will need to switch to the main color you want.
For the No AMS - Multicolor Raised Text variant: The text is raised, this way you can pause the print at 4.2 mm (the pause is already added in the 3mf file) and switch the filament. Start with the main color, the switch to the text color. If you have an AMS simply simply change the pause to a “switch filament” command.
For two lines of text simply add a second text object, in the way of the first. Just don't make the text too small otherwise it won't look good. Smaller text works best with the Flat Variant.
Printing:
Printing these Tags is very straight forward. Nothing complicated, just make sure:
If you use ironing: You'll have to have your ironing settings properly dialed in using an ironing test beforehand.
If you use ABS: curling can be an issue, but nothing that can't be fixed by a properly cleaned build plate. (Use brim ears on the tabs if needed)
I've always used the "0.2 Strength" preset and it worked well.
Material:
PLA works fine, I used if for quite some time, but it is not the most sturdy out there. PETG, or better yet ASA/ABS is recommended, especially when used on gear that is frequently outside. Those i made out of ABS have noticeably less scratches and dents.
Scale:
These all have a standard and a short variant. All are 4 mm thick, sturdy, but they still fit well. The standard size fits names or short phrases, the short one works for when you only need a number/letter or two. These also can also generally fit on the shoulder straps on the front of a backpack for quickly distinguishing which is yours from all sides.
Variants:
So far I have
- Flat: the simplest, this one prints face down and will pick up the texture of the print plate
- Inset text: the best looking in my opinion, use ironing for an extra smooth look
- Multicolor - No AMS: Using inset text you can get multicolored tags by swapping the filament mid print
- Flag variant: I'm German, so obviously it is in german colors, but the colors could be swapped out for any others
If you want any more specific versions, like another flag or something else, let me know and I'll see what I can do
Ideas:
The possibilities are endless.
- Finally put your name on everything
- Clearly label your all your bags and pouches
- Put a “hands off" label on your gear so others will know not to mess with it
- Tag your plate carrier with your name or your blood type
- Put your units designation on unit stuff
- Whatever else you can think of
Warning:
If you print some of these, it might be possible that all your buddies will request you make them some as well, so your printer might be busy for a while. Alternatively, just make make tags for the entire squad to beginn with. These make for a amazing litte gifts.
Happy printing!
Update 29.07.25: Added raised variant and premade blood types tags.
