Description
fumLess2 - a smokeless cigarette/vape of the future!
IMPORTANT NOTICE
This print DOES NOT use any flavoured cores, essential oils, nicotine juices. It is just for inhaling clean air through it.
But in all seriousness - I'm trying to quit smoking/vaping and I found that as far as the nicotine I don't have much problem quitting, but the hardest part for me is getting rid of the need to fidget around with my vape and just pull air through it. Sort of habit. I don't even need to actually vape, just play around with it.
And so I found the famous FUM. Nice concept, but I'm not a fan of spending 100+ USD for flavored air, not to mention replacing one flavored air addiction with another is not an ideal solution.
So here it is - a few hours of designing, tweaking, printing and testing later (and about a week of using the previous prototype design), I present to you fumLess2. It's basically a hollow tube with mouthpiece to pull air through. It's sleek, nicely balanced and has a lot of nooks and crannies to toy around and fidget with, while being similar enough to actual vape or cigarette to sort of feed this habit of having it around.
The fumLess consists of two parts - the base, which is the mouthpiece with air tube and the inlet, plus the core, which rotates into one of 5 positions with satisfying snaps, allowing you to adjust the airflow, just like in a real vape.
As for printing tips:
- I recommend printing the base standing upright on the mouthpiece, printed like 20 of them during my testing and design iterations, never had adhesion issues, so should be fine without brim
- The core should be printed standing on the end inlet - it's designed in such a way that it doesn't need supports in this orientation
- I printed mine with 0.2 mm layer height and everything fits smoothly, the tolerances are a bit more forgiving than in the prototype
- You don't need ANY supports
To assemble just put the core on the base with correct position to match the key, and then twist the core to one of 5 positions to lock it into place and adjust the airflow.
I hope you enjoy! I printed the core of mine with Sunlu Wood PLA, and it looks stunning, can recommend. You can experiment with printing the core with PETG to be more food-safe, but I didn't bother.
