Description

Stylish Fruit Fly Trap

I’ve always found that most fruit fly traps don’t really fit into a modern home — they look more like something you’d want to hide away than keep on display. That’s why I designed this version in a clean, contemporary style, making it both functional and visually appealing.

The trap comes in 2 designs. A round version and a cylindrical version.

The trap is printed in PLA and you can print it in a variety of colors to match different interiors. To enhance its look, I’ve incorporated sections with a fuzzy skin surface, giving the piece a unique texture that adds depth and elegance.

Unlike traditional traps, this one is designed to blend seamlessly with your living space — so you can keep it out in the open without compromising on style.

At the top of the trap, small 3 mm holes are placed, along with additional holes on the side, where the fruit flies can easily enter. The top part can be unscrewed to pour in an attractant liquid — the most effective being a mixture of apple cider vinegar with a drop of dish soap, which breaks the surface tension and ensures that once the flies land, they sink into the liquid and cannot escape.

Once the fruit flies are drawn inside by the scent, they naturally head for the openings, slip in, and eventually fall into the liquid chamber below, where they are trapped.

This design makes it simple to clean and refill, so you can keep reusing it instead of constantly throwing away disposable traps. By combining practicality with aesthetics, this fruit fly trap transforms a household necessity into a stylish piece of functional design.

The thread connection between the two parts has been designed with very fine tolerances to achieve a perfect fit. It is therefore crucial to carefully remove any brim residue left after printing. If not cleaned properly, the remaining brim can interfere with the threading and cause difficulties when screwing the parts together.

The thread on the lid can be a bit tight at first, but after af few turns on and of, it fits perfectly
