Description

🚉 Mini Train Departure Display Case – 3.12" OLED Edition

This is my custom case design for Chrisys Train Departure Display project — a brilliant build that recreates a near real-time UK railway station departure board using a Raspberry Pi Zero and a 256x64 OLED screen.

Chrisys’ original case was designed for a smaller display, but I’ve reworked it to fit a 3.12" OLED (256x64, SSD1322 controller) — the one I used is linked below (AliExpress), but plenty of compatible options exist:

🛠 Assembly

  • 8 × 3.5 brass inserts (3mm or 2mm length)
  • 8 × M2.5 × 4mm screws

Drop the brass inserts into the provided slots, screw it all together, and you’re good to go. Just don’t overtighten the screws on the display mount — snug is perfect.

The rear lid has push-fit pins for a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W, designed to “click” satisfyingly into place. There’s also a 4mm cable hole for USB power.

🖨 Print Settings

  • Designed for my Bambu Lab A1 defaults — no supports needed
  • Printed mine in Elegoo PLA+ black, looks great on top of my Amazon Echo Show 15 in the kitchen
  • For extra heat resistance, PETG is recommended, though PLA has held up fine so far

💡 This has been a fun learning project, both on the electronics side and designing my own case in Fusion 360. Always open to feedback — and if you’re building one of these displays, make sure you check out Chrisys’ original project too!
