Description

I was tired of needing both hands to unplug my phone and then remove it from the RAM mount. So I upgraded to MagSafe. After some testing, I found that the Anker MagGo had stronger magnets than the original Apple MagSafe charger. 

 

The charger holder is designed to be slim and low profile, and minimize interference with the case--even the iPhone Mini. If you have other ideas for holders for the MagGo or Zolo, let me know. I have included my model of the charger if you want to give it a spin.

Print Recommendations

  • High temp material. ABS, ASA, PC, PET-CF, etc
    • See note below
    • PETG should be OK if you are in a cold/cloudy area or if your car is rarely left in direct sun all day.
    • Polymaker HT-PLA looks promising for those of us with open printers.
  • 0.16mm layer thickness for aesthetics (0.2mm will probably be fine)
  • 3 wall
  • 15% infill
  • Supports on or will need some type of brim for ball to not move 
  • Print as imported, so line layers are at an angle.

 

Environment temps

It gets really hot inside of a parked car, especially at the dash area. In 38ºC/100ºF air, in direct sun, it can reach hotter than 70ºC/158ºF. This pushes filaments to the limit for their HDT (Heat Deflection Temperature). See Prusa's Filament Material Guide.

The only area I have seen deformation is on the ram ball, which is under compression. My black car sits in the direct California sun all day, every day. This was V1 printed Bambu PETG-HF/3 wall layers/15% infill and in my car all summer.
