Description

I created this small parametric jar with an elegant ribbed outer surface and a smooth inner surface and lid. Ideal for storing small items or for use in the kitchen. Creating a couple of different size jars with different colored lids can create a playful effect in your kitchen.

The size of the jar can be changed in 2 ways:

  • By changing the height: the standard height is set to 100 mm. This is the height of the jar only! So excluding the lid. The minimal height is 40 mm and the maximum height is 159 mm. The diameter of the jar is not affected by changing the height.
  • By changing the scaling factor: the standard scaling factor is 1. With this setting, the height is exactly as entered (e.g. 100 mm). By changing the scaling factor, both the height and width are affected! In this way, you can create smaller or larger jars. The minimal scaling factor is 0.4 and the maximum scaling factor is 2;

I've done it in this way to make sure the wall thickness stays constant and create a nice rib pattern, no matter the size. It requires a bit of puzzling to create the desired dimensions. Below, you can find some examples of settings that create a variety of different sizes. Please leave a comment if you are not sure how to adjust the settings to get the desired dimensions.

NOTE:

When changing the scaling factor, this has to be done for both the lid and jar separate!

Do you think this design is useful, think about giving it a boost. That would be greatly appreciated!

DISCLAIMER:

I did not print al lot of different sizes. The pictures attached are of the jar with default settings. When leaving the scaling factor to 1 and only changing the height, the fit and finish will work just fine. Only the total height will differ. I have not tried to print the smalles one (scaling factor 0.4; height 40mm). If you do, please leave a comment on how that turned out!

EXAMPLES

  1. DEFAULT SETTINGS: Scaling factor = 1; Height = 100 mm
    1. The total height of jar + lid = 120 mm.
    2. Height jar = 100 mm
    3. Height lid = 20 mm
    4. Outer diameter (jar and lid) = 115 mm
    5. Inner diameter jar = 105 mm
  2. Scaling factor = 0.5; Height = 200 mm
    1. The total height of jar + lid = 201.5 mm
    2. Height jar = 179 mm
    3. Height lid = 22.5mm
    4. Outer diameter (jar and lid) = 129 mm
    5. Inner diameter jar = 119 mm
  3. Scaling factor = 1.5; Height is 50 mm
    1. The total height of jar + lid = 105 mm
    2. Height jar = 75 mm
    3. Height lid = 30 mm
    4. Outer diameter (jar and lid) = 172 mm
    5. Inner diameter jar = 160 mm
  4. Scaling factor = 0.4; Height is 150 mm
    1. The total height of jar + lid = 68 mm.
    2. Height jar = 60 mm
    3. Height lid = 8 mm;
    4. Outer diameter (jar and lid) = 46 mm
    5. Inner diameter jar = 39 mm
