This spool holder rod has a smooth finish and it is sturdy with 10% infill. Easy for holding 3-5kg filament spool

Will share longer version soon. It can still be printed in smaller plate like A1 mini

I checked it supports most of the 3kg spool size. Only the Polymaker is wider. It is usable but better use longer version.

Specs

Diameter (in mm)

inner spool part - diameter: 55

outer holder part - diameter: 40

Dimensions (in mm)

H x W x D : 140 x 55 x 55

How to use

As the filament spool is relatively heavy. I suggest to put the spool on the floor and slide the rod in. Hold the rod from inside with both hands and drop into the holder base.

Comment if you need a custom size and I will see if I could help =]

This model is for the spool holder of this model.

The original design cannot fit my spool so I created the rod.

It has a thicker diameter at the spool-contact section which can raise the spool and significantly reduce the back and forth movement when feeding.

When I needed a new spool holder and I dont want to reinvent the wheel, there are so many spool holders. But I am looking for something that is not over-engineered e.g. we dont need ball bearing to hold a spool.

Mechanical engineering is always trying to keep it simple, with least material and work to deliver same performance/functional requirements.
