Stone statues mostly have bulging eyes, large noses, and tightly closed lips. The status of Stone Grandpa in Korea is similar to that of WesternSanta Claus, or China'sFu Lu Shou San Xing (three stars of fortune, prosperity, and longevity). They all embody the local people's good wishes. Legend has it that the Stone Grandpa with his left hand up is a military official, and the one with his right hand up is a civil official. Touching the Stone Grandpa's nose can help you have sons, and touching his belly and hands can bring promotion and wealth. It is said that after Korean couples get married, they must visit Jeju Island to worship the Stone Grandpa for many children and blessings
