AirTag Cover for Sony Alpha Body (4 variants)

A box designed to conceal an AirTag on a Sony Alpha body (A7 III / A7 IV and similar models).
Both official Apple AirTags and unofficial versions also work.

I have designed several variants of this box to meet all possible needs.

Note: The renders below may differ slightly (aesthetically only) from the model in project 3.mf.
They contain the updated STL v2 files, which I recommend you use.
Do not use V1 versions.

🟧 VARIANTS 🟧

🟧 VARIANTS 🟧

  • A. MINI STANDARD BOX
Small version, to be oriented to the left of the camera body (opposite side to the battery). Fixed with a **1/4" screw** (see bottom of description). Warning: with the mini version, if the device is placed on a table, it may tilt to one side — prefer the large version if you want more balance.

1/4" - Male screw for camera (Example 1)
1/4" - Male screw for camera  (Example 2)

  • B. LARGE STANDARD BOX
Same principle as the mini, but more covering under the camera body. Prevents imbalance if placed on a flat surface. The battery compartment remains accessible. A small empty rectangle for material saving + visible barcode & serial number.

1/4" - Male screw for camera (Example 1)
1/4" - Male screw for camera  (Example 2)

  • C. BOX WITH ¼ SCREW EXTENSION
A slightly thicker version to accommodate a 1/4"-20 female to male screw extension and allow the addition of a 1/4" male screw (for Arca mount or others). Includes **two small TPU strips** (plates) to be placed to prevent scratches/friction.
Warning: This design is intended for use on studio equipment. (Permanently mounted on a tripod/rail)

1/4"-20 Female to Male Screw Extension (Example 1)

1/4"-20 Female to Male Screw Extension (Example 2)

The TPU plate is optional. You can print it in PLA if you don't have it.

  • D. BOX WITH ¼ SCREW MOUNT
Identical to the large & mini standard versions but with a female ¼ screw thread to mount an Arca mount or another support.
    Also features a TPU plate.
Warning: The screw thread has fine tolerance: screw firmly (2–3 turns) with a 1/4" screw for a correct fit.
I am not responsible for defective threading, poor prints, or device drops.
👉 Ensure the attachment is very solid before use.

The TPU plate is optional. You can print it in PLA if you don't have it.

1/4" - Male screw for camera (Example 1)
1/4" - Male screw for camera (Example 2)

Valid for all versions.
To easily remove the AirTag from the prints, regardless of the variant, simply press on the back of the AirTag. The layer is thin, about 0.75 mm, which allows you to press with your finger or a soft surface so as not to tear the thin plastic layer.

Customization (optional/aesthetic)

  • You can add texts such as battery box, flash control module, or other things…. The purpose of this customization is to simulate and camouflage the AirTag box.

  • Tips:
    • Do not exceed **0.8 mm** in thickness for text inserts. Make sure the text does not extend into the inner circle of the box.
    • Preferably print as shown on the example plate with the text face vertically.
    • Feel free to change the size, font, colors, and more.
    • Innovate!

🛠️ Update on 09/10/2025 – (Future design)

I am currently thinking about a **new version** that can accommodate a base plate screw nut for Sony
(models ILCE-A7M3, A7R3, 7RM2, A7II, etc.).

The idea would be to **double the bottom plate** and **offset the original screw**,
to allow for a more robust mounting compatible with **quick release plates**.

Technical note: 1/4 threading characteristics:

Nominal cylinder diameter: 6.35 mm

Screw pitch: 1.27 mm

Pitch angle: 60°

Thread height: 0.825 mm
