Description

This is a parametric 3D model of a cantilever toolbox, designed for MakerWorld the parametric option. The model allows customization of dimensions, including length, width, and height, within some limits. The cantilever mechanism is accurately modeled for realistic opening and spreading of the toolbox, that adjust arms length and placement automatically based on parameter values.

 

This allows for the top (lid) section to fully open whilst the middle section opens half way. 

 

I made this model for my use and the pre made file is for a box of 100x125 mm. The internal measurements in this example is shown at the side.

The model consists of 

  • a base that is customizable by the internal length and width as well as height.
  • a mid layer that adapts to the base and its height so that arms function as intended. There are two version, one as a drawer and one as just a spacer to allow full access to the bottom compartment
  • a top layer (lid) that adapts to lenght and width and is customizable in height, thickness and clearance of the handle
  • arms. goes without saying, a key component

When exporting the model you have two middle sections. If you only want one option then just print two copys of the one you need instead of one of each. 

Height of Base + Mid section is max 58 mm.

Minimum width: 125 mm

Walls a fixed at 5 mm just since it looks nice. This adds 10 mm to the overall length and width

 

Key features include:

  • Adjustable parameters
  • Cantilever mechanism: trays rotate outward smoothly with proper clearance.
  • Assembly-ready design: no extra parts needed

Assemby guidelines:

  • Its rather self explanatory. Sections goes on top of each other and arms in the holes. The arms have text on the back but only goes in one place
  • Press! Its a tight fit, its by design. Let me know if its to tight.
  • PLA works, PLA Matte is nicer buy more fragile. Personally I use PETG for the arms and PLA for the rest

Key takeaway:

  • I made this for my own use, thats why there are some limitations. It was never intended to be a “normal” toolbox for hammers and stuff, I can but that was not the intent. I use it for small stuff, like my charger for work etc
  • I would be soooooo happy if I was able to reach the number needed to be able to give out commercial licenses but I'm quite far from that target today

Printing:

Print it however you like, I do it this way with tree supports for the lid. It is printable without supports if you tinker and have dialed in you filament and printer but I use supports just because its easier.

 

The filament in the images are Bambu Wood and a generic PLA Matte
