H-Shift Gear Shifter | PAX Designs

Compact, pocket-sized 3D-printed gear shifter replica with a movable peg for real H-pattern shifting action. Clean, low-support geometry and knurled grip m

ake it a quick print and a satisfying tactile desk toy or keychain.

Why I made it

I built this miniature gear shifter to capture the tactile satisfaction of a manual transmission in a tiny, shareable object. It started as a design exercise: translate a familiar H-pattern and the subtle mechanics of shifting into a single printed piece that feels good in the fingers, teaches the motion of gear selection, and works as a small, repeatable gift for car people and makers. I wanted something that reads immediately — you look at it and know what it is — while also rewarding closer inspection: knurling you can feel, a slot that guides movement, and two pattern variants so the model can reflect different real-world shift layouts. It’s meant to be approachable for other makers: quick to print, fun to hold, and easy to remix into keychains, desk toys, or design studies.
