Description
Drilling and Spacing Template for IKEA BILLY/RACKA Filament Rack by LH3D
To evenly align the great holders from LH3D, I created this small template.
The goal was a uniform look with minimal use of the original drill holes. Like LH3D, I used 5x20mm chipboard screws, but found that they don't hold very well in the drill holes. With this template, new holes are drilled into the chipboard for all but one row, thus achieving a firm hold.
Instructions:
The lowest bracket is placed on the bottom of the shelf, and the template is positioned on it so that it lies straight on the bracket and against the back wall. Then, using a small drill bit, pre-drill the new holes for the screws and fasten the bracket.
The next row uses the first two rows of existing holes. Care should be taken when tightening the screws, as they may not be very secure.
All subsequent brackets are drilled and screwed using the template.
I think the pictures clearly show how it all works.
Unfortunately, I only tested it with the 106cm high shelves.
Extra Tip:
Since I'm not a fan of sawing the Racka rods, I chose a version that is slightly shorter than the shelf and extended it. In my opinion, the extended rods are also more stable than the individual rods.
When choosing the bracket, you must ensure that you print one bracket for the inside and one for the outside for each level. The rod is then simply pulled to the correct length and inserted. If the rod is not snug enough in the bracket, you can apply a little superglue between the plastic insert and the inner and outer rod.
My thanks go to LH3D for this great idea!
