I stole inspiration from DynaMight who posted his version on here as well.

This is a project called Galagino from harbaum who's posted it on github.

This uses an ESP32 CYD.

Ensure you have the correct driver version.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions assembling or need code.

 

I attempted to keep this semi simple as all designs online require custom PCBs 

The electronics are just held into place with hot glue.

Currently there is no speaker designed into the case

I used 2x 5x7mm PCBs for the buttons.

The MCP23017 connects via I2C - you may need to make a custom cable with 1.25mm JST connectors.

There is 2 power switches - one to cut power from the battery and another that holds the reset button in order to allow charging while “off”

You will need to solder leads onto the reset pin pads and wire into the switch in order for this to function properly

The buttons are super glued on with the tiniest amount of super glue - careful to not use too much as it can cause the buttons to not press properly

 

You will need to get the ROMs yourself and DYOR in order to complete this project but it's a fun little arcade gameboy deal once complete.

I will attach my code that I used as I had to edit the code provided by harbaum and a semi complete parts list

Unzip the attached file and open the .ino in Arduino IDE and be mindful to use the correct ESP board version outlined by harbaum (v2.0.9)

 

The community has been super helpful in helping me complete this and I think all said and done I have $30-40ish dollars in this project.
