Description
Prevent trips to the hospital with this handy bumper.
- 10% gyroid infill using 95A TPU (default in the print profile) gave a firm but squishy feel suitable for softening cranial impacts
- Print profile has a height of 240mm. Pattern repeats exactly every 30mm so you can cut into any multiple of 30mm to get the height you need and a seamless transition. Option without the leaf pattern included in the profile.
- 100-250g of material to protect an edge depending on how tall your kids are
Print profile includes versions for mounting with:
- Thin Tape such as Scotch Double Sided Tape (recommended)
- Thick Tape (0.7-1mm thick) such as Makers Supply double sided tape or Scotch Indoor Heavy Duty using the print profile with grooves that the thicker tape fits into.
The tapes I used are the links above and both worked well for me. On my X1C I printed batches of 5x240mm sections to protect edges using a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.2mm layer height. While I used 95A TPU, other soft filaments or event PETG could be used without issue.
I designed this because my apartment has hard concrete wall corners and my seven-year old has a scooter she likes to use indoors. Other foam edge protectors I've found online are simply too soft to prevent injury and also not very attractive. The cost of a roll of TPU and the double sided tape was about equivalent in price to online foam edge protectors for the same length protected, and my family enjoyed adding a little bit of style with the leaf pattern.
