After all the posts about the airless basketball, I figured I’d try to make an airless football. It has a shape that is a little more optimized for 3D printing and isn’t as critical for it to be “bouncy”. A full size regulation football doesn’t fit on the P1P vertically, so I modeled it after a junior size football, just under 10” long. It throws just like a normal football, maybe even easier to get to spiral.
PRINTING NOTES:
- Print vertically as shown in the picture with supports enabled. I used the stock support settings on BambuStudio and they were really easy to remove.
- I suggest adding painted supports on the lacing as these are a bit of an overhang.
- The first 30-40mm should be printed very slowly and/or at a lower layer height to prevent the TPU from curling.
- Material: Overture TPU
- Total print time was ~45 hours and printed it out of overture TPU.
- Printed weight is 375 grams even though BambuStudio showed a weight of 420g (without supports), A professional football weighs between 410 and 460 grams.
- Additional print settings outlined in the print profile
