Luke Skywalker's lightsaber crochet hook
Print Profile(1)

Description
This is a remix of the Luke Skywalker lightsaber linked above. To create this version, I rescaled the model, combined several pieces, and designed a custom internal channel to accommodate crochet hooks. This model is a little over 1:2 scale (60%)
Assembly & Compatibility
This project requires some assembly and glue to secure the decorative pieces. I have included a test handle so you can verify that your 4mm hook fits before printing a bunch of components. I’ve linked the specific 4mm hooks I used below; however, please note that I’ve noticed size variations even among hooks from the same manufacturer.
Ergonomics & Usage
While this handle is technically functional, please be aware that it is quite long. My wife found it uncomfortable for extended use, which is expected given the width required to fit the hook through the emitter channel. If you are printing this for someone else, keep in mind it is more of a novelty item than an ergonomic tool. The handle is probably more durable when glued, but the friction fit is tight enough that glue is not required for use with a 4mm hook.
A Note on the "Twist and Lock"
On my specific print, the "twist and lock" point sits slightly higher than the very bottom of the handle. While this isn't standard and I'm not sure why it is happening, the hook still locks securely if you pull it slightly back from the bottom-out point.
Lightsaber Crochet Hook
How it works: With a simple twist and click, your standard crochet hook transforms into a replica lightsaber. The force required to lock the hook into place should be minimal; you can use the tip of your hook for extra leverage if needed. If the hook does not twist easily, try a different hook, as dimensions can vary even with the same manufacturer.
🧶 Details
- Hook Sizes: 4mm (5mm and 6mm versions can be created if there is interest).
- Handle Length: Approx. 7 inches.
- Materials Used: Bambu Basic PLA, Generic Silk PLA.
- Interchangeable System: A twist-to-secure design keeps your hook snug while crocheting.
NOTE: We used a specific brand of crochet hook when designing this mechanism. We discovered that hooks are not universal—even hooks from the same manufacturer can have slight variations in shape that may prevent the locking mechanism from functioning. If your hook won't turn, try another one!
