Model Information:

The Cívitas Metropolitano (often also Wanda Metropolitano or simply Estadio Metropolitano) in Madrid, Spain, has been the spectacular new home of Atlético Madrid ("Los Colchoneros") since 2017.

• From "Comb" to Palace: Originally, the stadium was built in 1994 as an athletics stadium ("La Peineta" or Estadio Olímpico) for Madrid's failed Olympic bids. At that time, it was characterized by only a single, huge concrete grandstand that looked like a comb.
• The Renovation: For Atlético, the pitch was lowered and the rest of the stadium was completely rebuilt around this old "Comb Grandstand", creating a closed cauldron.
• The Roof: An architectural highlight is the floating roof (a tensile ring-cable structure), which hovers over the stands like a giant bicycle spoke wheel and glows red and white in the club colors at night.
• History: It replaced the beloved but old Vicente Calderón. The name "Metropolitano" is a tribute to the stadium where the club played before the Calderón (1923–1966).
• Events: It hosted the 2019 Champions League Final (Liverpool vs. Tottenham).
